The president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has returned to Nigeria after his working visit to France. Tinubu’s private jet made a landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at around 2.15pm, where he was received by his supporters, party members, and some governors. His wife, Senator Oluremi, was also present and arrived in matching blue attire with a cap to match.
Tinubu had left Nigeria in order to avoid distractions and focus on refining his transition programmes and policy options with some of his key aides. He was accompanied by his vice-president-elect, Senator Kashim Shettima; Governor Abdullahi Ganduje; Senate President Ahmad Lawan, and Senator Godswill Akpabio, who is the APC’s anointed candidate for the post of Senate president in the 10th Assembly.
A statement signed by his media aide, Tunde Rahman, stated that Tinubu will spend his stay engaging with investors and other key allies, with the goal of marketing investment opportunities in the country. Before leaving for France, Tinubu met with the candidates endorsed by the All Progressives Congress for Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas and Benjamin Kalu.
Tinubu is also expected to attend the official opening ceremony of the Dangote Refinery complex in Lagos State alongside President Muhammadu Buhari and other dignitaries on Monday.
The All Progressive Congress (APC) leader’s return has been highly anticipated as the country’s political scene is in turmoil due to the upcoming general elections.
