Kogi State Police Command has released a statement regarding a controversial comment made on Facebook, on an account believed to belong to Akeem Yusuf, the State’s Commissioner of Police. The questioned statement was directed toward Grammy-nominated afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti. The comment, allegedly made by the Commissioner, hinted that Kuti’s body might have been thrown into the lagoon for assaulting a policeman.

While responding to these claims, the Kogi State Police Command’s spokesperson, William Aya, stated that the Facebook account had been hacked and the Commissioner did not make the comment. However, Aya did not deny that the now controversial account belongs to Yusuf.

In an official statement, Aya emphasised that:

“The statement is fake and misleading with the aim to tarnish the image and reputation of the CP. It is incumbent to let the public know that the Facebook account has been hacked since September 2022, and he has several times warned people to disregard any message from that account.”

He also advised the public to ignore the comment and dismissed it as the handiwork of mischievous individuals set on sullying the good record and image of the Commissioner.

Given the rise in cybercrime and the prevalence of hacked social media accounts, it is crucial to be cautious when engaging with online content.
