Suspected Yoruba Nation Agitators Reportedly Invade and Hijack Amuludun FM Radio Station in Ibadan

In the early hours of Sunday, alleged members of the Yoruba Nation agitators stormed and hijacked Amuludun 99.1 FM in Ibadan. One of the station’s staff members informed Media Talk Africa that the suspects had invaded the station with various forms of charms around 6 am on Sunday. Amuludun FM is a local radio station that is owned by the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).

The staff revealed that the Yoruba Nation agitators woke them up with the charms and took control of the radio station. Some staff members have fled, and others are still missing. The suspects took over the station and rendered it off the air. The hijack lasted for several hours before security forces intervened.

Mr. Stephen Agbaje, the General Manager of the radio station, acknowledged the attack in a statement to Media Talk Africa. Mr. Agbaje confirmed that the security agencies have regained control of the station and some arrests have been made.

The escalation of the Yoruba Nation agitation has increased tension in Nigeria’s southwest region in recent months. Yoruba Nation agitators have been calling for secession from Nigeria, citing the marginalisation and attacks on Yoruba people as their reason.

All parties involved are encouraged to act within the confines of the law to maintain peace and order in Nigeria.
