Former Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, has followed the constitutional requirements to declare his assets to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) in Chapter 6.
Buhari’s declaration of assets was acknowledged by the CCB, according to a statement issued by Garba Shehu, Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity.
Shehu also disclosed that the number of animals on Buhari’s farm has decreased over the last four years as he had given some as gifts to others.
Furthermore, according to Shehu, there were no increases in his movable assets in or outside Nigeria, and the former president made no new bank accounts outside his Union Bank account in Kaduna.
Shehu confirmed that Buhari has not obtained any loans or incurred any liability.
Buhari’s declaration of assets is in compliance with the constitution of Nigeria, as prescribed in Chapter 6 of the constitution which requires the president to submit the declaration to the CCB before being inaugurated.
It can be recalled that on May 10, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammed, charged civil servants, including judges, to declare their assets in accordance with the law.
With Buhari’s declaration, he has shown the importance of complying with the constitution as a former president.
