In a bid to support and uplift Nigerian football clubs, the Interim Management Committee (IMC) has confirmed the payment of participation fees to all the clubs that took part in the 2022–23 Nigeria Premier League (NPL) season.
The head of operations for the IMC, Davidson Owumi, recently addressed journalists in Abuja, where he disclosed the disbursement of a N200 million startup grant. Owumi explained that the grant was distributed equally among the ten participating teams, aiming to alleviate any financial strain at the beginning of the season and ensure a smooth start for all clubs.
Owumi emphasized the committee’s unwavering dedication to revitalizing and transforming the league. He stated, “The IMC disbursed the sum of N200m at N10m each to the clubs in January, after a ceremonial presentation and before the commencement of the season.
“This N200 million, shared equally among the clubs, serves as a startup grant, taking into consideration the challenges that clubs face in initiating the season in January, a time when most states are still in the process of passing their budgets.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to achieving a complete turnaround of the league. Despite the distractions from those who seek to impede our progress, we will remain focused.”
