Tinubu Administration Pledges to Revitalize Nigeria’s Primary Healthcare System

In a bid to address the concerns surrounding the financing of Nigeria’s primary healthcare system, the Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government has made a promise to take necessary actions.

The Vice President, Kashim Shettima, made this announcement during a meeting with some Governors under the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, and Bill Gates at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Shettima emphasized that one of the significant challenges facing primary healthcare in the country is polio. To combat this, he revealed that the government’s proposal involves providing timely domestic financing for vaccine procurement and boosting Nigeria’s industrial capacity to produce vaccines.

Furthermore, the Vice President stressed the government’s commitment to achieving the eradication of the variant poliovirus by the end of the year. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that every Nigerian child is covered in routine immunization campaigns.

During the interactive session, Bill Gates, the renowned philanthropist, announced his foundation’s plan to commit $7 billion to support Africa in the next four years, particularly for routine immunization in Nigeria and the Global Polio Eradication Initiative in Northern Nigeria.
