Sale of Nasarawa State Liaison Office: Nasarawa State Assembly Conducts Investigation

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has called for calm in response to recent protests organized by residents of the state in Lagos. The protests were triggered by allegations of the sale of the Nasarawa liaison office by former Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.

The House has assured the citizens of Nasarawa State that a thorough investigation into the matter is currently underway. They have appealed to all parties involved to remain calm as the investigation progresses.

Setting up the Investigation Committee

To facilitate a comprehensive and in-depth investigation, the Assembly has established a 9-member ad-hoc committee. This committee, headed by lawmaker Larry Ven Bawa, has been tasked with gathering detailed information about the alleged sale and determining its legality and implications.

On-Site Visit in Lagos

In order to gain a better understanding of the situation, the committee chairman, Bawa, accompanied by other lawmakers, recently visited the location of the alleged sale. The two-storey building situated at plot 1234 Bishop Oluwole, Victoria Island, was thoroughly inspected by the committee.

Bawa stated, “We are here as directed by the Speaker, Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, based on our resolutions during the House proceedings to investigate the alleged sale of state government properties in Lagos and other states by the administration of former Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.”

“We also aim to find out the real cause of the protest here in Lagos, evaluate the building, understand our people’s conditions and situations, especially those arrested.

“We will investigate if the building was indeed sold, identify the buyer, scrutinize the transaction process, and determine if the funds were deposited into the state government coffers or not.”

A Call for Ceasefire

The committee chairman, Bawa, advised the protesting indigenes to halt their demonstrations. He assured them that the State Assembly is committed to conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the truth regarding the alleged sale.

The Support of Nasarawa State Development Association

Musa Ikushigya, the President of Nasarawa State Development Association in Lagos, expressed his appreciation for the lawmakers’ visit. He pledged the association’s full cooperation in allowing the committee to comprehensively investigate the matter.
