Clerics in Edo State have called on their members to collect their permanent voter cards (PVCs) and vote for candidates with proven character in the upcoming 2023 general election. During the Edo Ministers Elders’ Caucus forum, they emphasized the urgent need to address the hardships faced by Nigerians by electing the right leaders. Apostle Godwin Ojo, the Founder of Life Renewal Ministries, urged the congregation to obtain their PVCs to enable them to vote for candidates who can alleviate the suffering allegedly caused by the All Progressives Congress (APC) government. He also encouraged them to remain steadfast in prayer for both the Church and the nation.
Ojo stressed the importance of having a PVC, stating, “If you don’t have the PVCs, you have no voice in this election discussion. No matter how you speak and mobilize, you have no voice. It is only those who have the PVCs that have a voice. Politics is a game of numbers.” His remarks highlighted the critical role that voter participation plays in shaping the electoral outcome.
Evangelist Tony Ekhine, the Head of National Publicity, Contact and Mobilisation for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, also addressed the participants, urging them to support Peter Obi, whom he described as a candidate with the fear of God, a listening ear, and good character. Ekhine asserted that Obi possesses the necessary qualities to lead Nigeria effectively. He criticized the current administration under President Muhammadu Buhari, claiming that it has failed to deliver on its promises.
Ekhine further emphasized the importance of obtaining PVCs, stating, “This moment requires all of us to get our PVCs to march forward to change the narrative of leadership in Nigeria.” He warned that there are plans by the ruling APC government to obstruct Nigerians from acquiring their PVCs, particularly in regions where Obi is popular. He assured the audience that efforts are underway to combat these challenges, including mobilizing civil society organizations to join the fight. He concluded by urging everyone to remain vigilant and prepared to vote.
