One of the three individuals abducted by gunmen in Fulani settlements near Iwo town, Osun State, has been rescued. The victim, Adams Ojonla, regained his freedom after the abductors encountered a group of hunters in the Papa area of Iwo on Monday. Ojonla, 38, a Fulani, along with Hamzat Ibrahim and Deere Ibrahim, both Bororo, were taken by eight gunmen last Friday at Idi Araba and Laagi Fulani along the Iwo/Aawe/Oyo Road.
During the confrontation with the hunters at Papa, the abductors reportedly engaged in a gun battle, which led to Ojonla being abandoned. Sources indicate that the abductors contacted the families of the remaining victims during negotiations, demanding that the ransom be paid in dollars. Initially, they asked for N5 million for each victim, but on Monday, they reduced the amount to N4 million for each of the two individuals still in captivity.
Police operatives and hunters are actively pursuing the perpetrators. While one person has been rescued, two others remain in the hands of the abductors. Yemisi Opalola, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, confirmed, “One person has been rescued. But a search-and-rescue operation is still ongoing to free the others.”
