Niger State Governor Establishes Refugees Commission with N500 Million Grant

The Governor of Niger State, Muhammed Umaru Bago, has taken a significant step towards addressing the challenges faced by Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state. Governor Bago has established a State Refugees Commission, providing a grant of N500 million to support its operations.

During a symbolic presentation ceremony in Minna, Governor Bago handed over relief materials from the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and IDPs to 700 households, highlighting the urgent need to address the plight of the IDPs.

The newly established State Refugees Commission will operate under the Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management. Governor Bago emphasized the importance of this commission in effectively tackling the difficulties faced by IDPs in Niger State.

Expressing concern about the high number of IDPs in the state, Governor Bago disclosed that the State Government has allocated a reserve of 13,000 bags of grains for distribution to the IDPs. This effort aims to alleviate their suffering and provide them with essential food supplies.

Furthermore, Governor Bago reassured the IDPs of the State Government’s continued commitment to improving their situation. The establishment of the State Refugees Commission and the allocation of funds reflect the government’s dedication to ensuring the well-being and protection of IDPs in Niger State.
