Zamfara State Governor, Lawal, Takes on Banditry with Community Protection Guards Recruitment

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has disclosed significant progress in the fight against banditry and related crimes in the state. He announced that the first batch of Community Protection Guards (CPG) recruited from all 14 local government areas of the state will undergo training within a week.

A statement from the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, revealed that Governor Lawal received the whitepaper of the transition committee at the council chamber, Government House in Gusau, the state capital.

During the presentation of the whitepaper on the transition committee report, Governor Lawal commended the committee for their thorough examination of the report’s issues and recommendations, emphasizing the government’s commitment to addressing public service and general administration matters.

The whitepaper committee was tasked with addressing the public’s interests by studying the recommendations and issues raised by the transition committee in 2023 and formulating the government’s position to align with Zamfara State’s development objectives. Governor Lawal also expressed his appreciation for the committee and the whitepaper authors for extensively examining a wide range of issues related to the state’s governance reform, including public service and financial reforms.

The move to recruit Community Protection Guards from across the state reflects the government’s determination to engage local communities in addressing the security challenges plaguing Zamfara State. This proactive approach aims to enhance security and protect citizens, while also fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility among the local populace in maintaining peace and order.

With the impending mobilisation of the CPG to the training camp, Governor Lawal’s proactive stance and commitment to tackling the security situation in Zamfara State are evident. This initiative underscores the government’s recognition of the need for a multi-faceted approach to security that involves not only law enforcement agencies but also active community involvement to effectively combat banditry and related crimes.
