The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the protection of Kogi State’s votes. This plea comes amidst reports of the APC governorship candidate, Usman Ododo, making significant strides towards victory.
Felix Morka, the spokesperson for the APC, raised concerns about opposition parties and candidates applying pressure on electoral officers to manipulate the results.
In a statement issued by Morka, he emphasized the need for INEC to guarantee a transparent, equitable, and credible election process in Kogi.
Morka’s statement expressed, “As the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Usman Ododo, advances towards a remarkable triumph in the Kogi Gubernatorial election, we implore the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to safeguard the integrity of the authentic votes cast by the people of Kogi.”
He continued, “The results that have been announced and collated so far exhibit our candidate maintaining a commanding lead in Kogi West and Central, while demonstrating a competitive performance in Kogi East.”
“We are acutely cognizant of the intense coercion, including violent threats aimed at INEC staff by agents and supporters of opposing parties who seek to unduly influence or disrupt the ongoing result collation process in the state,” Morka added.
The APC urged INEC to remain steadfast in fulfilling its constitutional responsibility to deliver a free, fair, and credible election in the state, ensuring that the genuine will of the Kogi electorate prevails.
