Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer Accuses Nigerian Government of Double National Offense Against IPOB Leader

Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, Aloy Ejimakor, has leveled a serious accusation against the Nigerian Government, alleging a “double offense” in the arrest of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader.

Ejimakor contends that detaining Kanu after subjecting him to extraordinary rendition from Kenya amounts to a double offense, which he vehemently asserts cannot stand.

Recalling a historical precedent, Ejimakor highlighted the repercussions of the botched rendition of Umaru Dikko in 1984, which resulted in Nigerians losing their visa-free travel to the United Kingdom. Drawing parallels to the present situation, he emphasized the ripple effect of Kanu’s arrest on the protection granted to Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho, by Benin Republic.

Expressing his stance, Ejimakor stated, “Detaining MNK after renditioning him is a double national offense that should not stand.”

Since his arrest and rendition from Kenya in 2021, Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). Despite court judgments ordering his release, the DSS has adamantly refused to grant him freedom.
