Former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, has intervened in the brewing crisis in Ondo State, where Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s prolonged absence and the plot to impeach Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa have plunged the state into a political deadlock.
Sources reveal that Tinubu is set to convene a high-stakes meeting with key political stakeholders in the state to chart a path towards resolving the impasse and restoring functional governance.
There are indications that following the meeting, Aiyedatiwa could be appointed as the acting governor, thereby filling the leadership vacuum.
Expected attendees at the crucial meeting include the Speaker of the State Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, top officials of the state legislature, the three senators representing Ondo State, and the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Ade Adetimehin.
Confirming the meeting, the Speaker of the Assembly remarked, “The only information I can give you now is that myself, my principal officers of the House of Assembly, the state chairman of APC, the national chairman of APC, and the three senators representing Ondo State in the National Assembly will be meeting Mr. President by 2:00 pm.”
Recent investigations have uncovered that 11 out of the 26 lawmakers in the Assembly have thrown their weight behind Aiyedatiwa, reflecting a growing coalition in support of the deputy governor’s ascension to the role of acting governor.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, one of the lawmakers disclosed that external influences beyond the state played a pivotal role in rallying the support of the 11 legislators.
