Police Unaware of Planned NLC Mass Protest, Expresses Security Concerns

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police command has stated its lack of knowledge about the organized labor’s upcoming nationwide protest. The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, have scheduled mass protests for February 27 and 28 due to the escalating economic hardship.

The organized labor has initiated mobilization efforts across the country for the planned protest, in response to the mounting cost of living crisis, particularly affecting civil servants. The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, emphasized the command’s readiness to maintain law and order during the protest, expressing concerns over the security situation.

Adeh mentioned, “I wish to note that the FCT Police Command isn’t aware of any intending protest. However, measures will be emplaced to ensure that hoodlums do not take advantage of any activities of the NLC to disrupt the peace in the FCT if the protest does occur.”

The police’s stance raises apprehensions over the potential impact of the protest and the safeguarding of public safety in the nation’s capital amidst the ongoing economic challenges.
