The Executive Chairman of the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Olugbenga Olaleye, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to implementing the single interstate road tax stickers (SIRTS) and the single haulage fee (SHF). He explained that this initiative was agreed upon with the chairmen of other states’ Internal Revenue Services, including the Federal Capital Territory, during the 151st Joint Tax Board (JTB) meeting in 2022. The goal is to benefit both transporters and the government.
Speaking at a stakeholder engagement and sensitisation meeting for SIRTS and SHF, held with OGIRS/JTB at the Obas’ Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the chairman highlighted that the program aims to harmonise the various payments made by transporters, promote ease of doing business nationwide, and boost the government’s internally generated revenue. He described the initiative as a win‑win situation compared with the fragmented payment system that previously existed. Under the new system, the SIRTS—similar to the consolidated emblem—will be paid annually, while the SHF will be charged per transaction at the point of loading and offloading goods.
Mr. Olaleye noted that the JTB, acting as the administrative body to facilitate nationwide implementation, is traveling across states to sensitize stakeholders, including security agents, on how to enforce the initiative. In his remarks, JTB Team Leader Mr. Amos Oduloye praised the Ogun State government for sustaining the project and implementing the initiative more effectively than other states. He emphasized that the JTB, as the umbrella body for all tax authorities, seeks to ensure harmony among states by providing a platform for the initiative’s implementation.
