Super Eagles Defender Troost-Ekong Prefers Local Coach for National Team

Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong has expressed his preference for a local coach to lead the Super Eagles, Nigeria’s national football team. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has yet to appoint a permanent head coach since Jose Peseiro’s departure in February.

During a radio interview with Nigeria football legend Segun Odegbami, Troost-Ekong stated his belief that a local coach would be the ideal choice for the team. He highlighted the success of teams like Senegal and Ivory Coast, who have thrived under the guidance of local coaches who understand the culture and players.

However, the PAOK Salonica player acknowledged the positive experiences he had under foreign coaches Gernot Rohr and Peseiro, including a World Cup appearance and a semi-final finish at the Africa Cup of Nations. He emphasized the importance of selecting the best coach for the team, regardless of nationality.

As the search for a new coach continues, Troost-Ekong remains open to working with any coach who can lead the team to success on the international stage. His focus is on the team’s performance and achieving their goals, rather than nationality or political considerations.
