Samuel Eto’o, President of Cameroon’s Football Federation, was interrogated by the disciplinary panel of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Tuesday, ten months after being accused of involvement in match-fixing by players. The session was held behind closed doors, and no information was provided on how Eto’o pleaded.
The allegations assert that Eto’o irregularly aided a club in ascending to the top of the Cameroonian League two years ago. Accusers claim they have submitted evidence linking the former Barcelona player to the misconduct to CAF.
In addition to the match-fixing charges, Eto’o faces accusations of unethical behaviour related to an ambassadorial deal he secured with a sports betting company. A complaint has also been lodged with FIFA regarding this issue.
If found guilty of these charges, Eto’o could face a lifetime suspension from football.
Eto’o was elected head of Cameroon’s football federation in December 2021.
