Canadian Teenager Summer McIntosh Wins Gold in 400-Meter Individual Medley at Paris Olympics
In a stunning display of swimming prowess, 17-year-old Canadian Summer McIntosh has won gold in the women’s 400-meter individual medley at the 2024 Paris Olympics. McIntosh dominated the field, finishing with a time of 4:27.71, just a couple of seconds off her own world record of 4:24.38.
The Toronto native, who now trains in Florida, outpaced American teenagers Katie Grimes and Emma Weyant to take the top spot on the podium. Grimes and Weyant took silver and bronze, respectively, with times of 4:33.40 and 4:34.93.
This is McIntosh’s second individual medal in Paris, and she is expected to win several more as the competition continues. Her remarkable haul is all the more impressive given her young age and the fact that she has been swimming’s wunderkind since the age of 14.
McIntosh has been breaking world records and winning championships since she was 15, and her talent and dedication have earned her a reputation as one of the finest female swimmers on the planet. She has already won multiple world championships and owns top-five times in history in six different events.
In the 400 IM, McIntosh showed why some competitors had already conceded the Olympic title to her before the competition even began. She beat Grimes to the wall by multiple body lengths, solidifying her position as a dominant force in the sport.
