Super Eagles to Get New Coach Before 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers
In a move to boost the team’s chances in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, Nigeria’s Sports Minister John Enoh has announced that a new head coach will be appointed for the Super Eagles before the start of the competition next month.
The position became vacant following the resignation of Finidi George in June, and Enoh has confirmed that the new coach will be appointed “sooner rather than later.” The minister made the announcement on a recent episode of the popular TV program, Politics Tonight.
The Super Eagles are set to face Benin Republic and Rwanda in their opening two games in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers in September. The team will host Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Saturday, September 7, before traveling to face Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali three days later.
With the appointment of a new coach imminent, the Super Eagles will be looking to regroup and prepare for the challenging qualifiers ahead. As three-time African champions, the team is expected to make a strong push for qualification to the 2025 AFCON.
