JAMB registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede announced on Saturday that more than 1.16 million admission seekers have registered for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry examinations. He made the statement during a monitoring tour of several computer‑based test (CBT) centres in Abuja, visiting Total Child International School, Dutse; the JAMB Abuja zonal office; Life Camp; Global Distance Learning Institute; and Sascon International College.
Oloyede clarified that the registration period, which began on 14 January 2023, will close on Tuesday and will not be extended. He warned against extortion practices at some centres, citing an incident at Stella Maris school where candidates were charged N30,000 in the name of JAMB and their telephone numbers were mishandled. “UTME is not a school‑based examination; it is for individual candidates,” he said. “We will take adequate steps to stop such exploitation.”
To curb malpractice, Oloyede announced that JAMB will instruct every CBT centre to cease bulk purchases of PINs and bulk registrations. Centres found selling more than one PIN to a single source or collecting money for multiple PINs from a single source will face sanctions.
