Rohr Reveals Best Match as Super Eagles Coach

Nigeria’s Former Coach Reveals Best Match in Charge of Super Eagles

Gernot Rohr, the former head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, has reflected on his time with the team, naming the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Zambia as his best match in charge. The 71-year-old German coach, who is currently managing the national team of Benin Republic, made the revelation during his pre-match press conference ahead of Nigeria’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Benin Republic.

Rohr, who spent five years with the Super Eagles, recalled the match against Zambia, which took place in October 2017, as a significant milestone in his tenure. “The 1-0 victory against Zambia which gave us qualification for the World Cup was the best one,” he said. The win not only secured Nigeria’s qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup but also marked a major milestone in the team’s history.

Rohr’s time with the Super Eagles was marked by several notable victories, including wins against Zambia, Algeria, Cameroon, Argentina, Poland, and Libya. The team also drew with both Brazil and Ukraine during his tenure. Although Rohr was shown the exit door by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) one month before the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, his legacy with the Super Eagles remains significant.

The coach’s revelation has sparked interest among football fans and experts, who are eager to revisit the highlights of his time with the Super Eagles. As Nigeria prepares to take on Benin Republic in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match, Rohr’s reflection on his best match in charge serves as a reminder of the team’s achievements under his leadership.
