Former Anambra State governor Chukwuemeka Ezeife has urged Nigerians to choose between the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and the All Progressives Congress’s candidate, Bola Tinubu, in the upcoming election. Speaking at the Obi‑Datti International Conference 2023 and the public presentation of the book *Business Unusual: Postulating Peter Obi’s Presidency* in Abuja, the elder statesman appealed for support from the southern region, emphasizing peace and inclusivity.
Ezeife warned against voting for a candidate of northern origin, condemning what he called “bullion‑van politics,” which he attributed to both the PDP and the APC. He argued that such practices enable politicians to buy votes and pursue self‑interest for four years, saying, “We want a system that works. We want Nigeria to work from now henceforth. Bullion‑van politics—enough is enough.” He added that accepting injustice and rejecting inclusiveness would jeopardize Nigeria’s survival.
Highlighting regional representation, Ezeife noted that while the Yoruba have held the presidency and vice‑presidency, the Igbo have not yet had the opportunity. He asserted that only southern candidates are qualified, stating, “The truth must be told. Only southern candidates are qualified by the decision of Nigerians to contest. We have Tinubu and Peter Obi. The choice is between Tinubu and Peter Obi.”
The book’s author, Kleisaint Ako, explained that the work aims to help Nigerians make informed choices to lift the country out of its current difficulties. He emphasized that advancing Nigeria’s political fortunes is the duty of every patriotic citizen and described the book as part of the funding tools for a potential Peter Obi presidency.
