Nigeria Customs secured N28.1bn worth of seizures in 2024 — Adeniyi

The Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi, said the service made N28.1 billion worth of seizures as of November 12, 2024.

Adeniyi disclosed this in his remarks at the Comptroller General of Customs 2024 Conference in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to him, the seizures indicate success in the service mandate in protecting both Nigerians and the economy.

He noted that the seizures include contraband items such as wildlife, arms, and ammunition to narcotics and pharmaceutical products.

“Fulfilling our enforcement mandate, we have achieved unprecedented success in protecting both our citizens and economy.

“The scale of our intervention is reflected in seizures valued at NGN 28.1 billion and counting in 2024 alone.

“These seizures span critical areas of national concern—from wildlife items and arms and ammunition to narcotics and pharmaceutical products,” he stated.

Earlier, Media Talk Africa reported that Customs announced that it had achieved its 2024 revenue collection target of N5.07 trillion.

In his remarks at the event, President Bola Ahmed vowed to continue reforms targeted at fixing Nigeria.

The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, who represented Tinubu, said the Nigerian government will not rest until the challenges bedevilling the country are fixed.

The event also featured remarks by Nigeria’s former minister of finance and Director General of the World Trade Organisation, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who advocated for Nigeria to streamline bottlenecks, mitigating against improved trades.
