Ogun LG poll: Steer clear polling units – NSCDC warns miscreants

The Ogun State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, has issued a stern warning to any individual or group planning to disrupt the ongoing local government elections in the state to desist forthwith.

The state commandant of the corps, Mrs Remilekun Ekundayo, gave the warning in Abeokuta on Saturday, as the council elections kicked off across the state.

Media Talk Africa reports that the State Independent Electoral Commission, OGSIEC, had fixed November 16 for the conduct of the elections in all the 20 local government areas, comprising 236 wards in the state.

Ekundayo warned miscreants, who had allegedly planned to disrupt the peaceful conduct of elections or hijack ballot boxes, to have a rethink.

She said that NSCDC had put in place security strategies to ensure law and order during the exercise.

“Anyone or group planning any mayhem will be made to face the wrath of the law.

“NSCDC will ensure the safety of voters and electoral materials.

“About 3,150 personnel have already been deployed in all the 20 LGAs and 236 political wards to ensure the security and success of the elections.

“I also plead with the electorate to cooperate with the process and avoid interference or taking laws into their own hands.

“All plans that are inimical and capable of inciting violence must be guarded against,” she said.
