The Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) has praised SUNU Assurance Plc for its ongoing support of the institute and the broader insurance industry, noting the company’s role in fostering growth and professionalism. The commendation was delivered by CIIN President Edwin Igbiti during a courtesy visit to SUNU Assurance’s Lagos office.
President Igbiti announced that the institute plans to visit additional insurance companies and is seeking further support from SUNU. He highlighted that SUNU Assurance has “come of age,” continuing to thrive despite a challenging operating environment. Emphasizing the institute’s mission, he said, “We are here on a courtesy call on SUNU. We plan to visit most insurance companies that will welcome us. We want to encourage professionals in the industry. All the employees in various companies belong to the institute and therefore, in order to encourage our professionals, we need to also encourage the companies that the future is brighter.” He outlined upcoming programmes, including the “Talent Night” scheduled for March, and requested SUNU’s assistance in promoting employee participation. Igbiti also mentioned the institute’s intention to return to its long‑abandoned secretariat site, again seeking SUNU’s support.
Speaking on ethics and good practices, Igbiti stressed that ethics are essential to projecting a profession’s credibility. CIIN Activity Committee Chairman Mrs. Yinka Adekoya, who accompanied the delegation, explained that the forthcoming Talent Night will replace the former Miss Insurance Night and will showcase young insurance professionals from various companies. Adekoya, former Managing Director of Coronation Insurance Plc, urged SUNU to motivate its young staff to enter the contest so the industry’s top talent can be identified.
Mrs. Margaret Moore, President of the Professional Insurance Ladies Association, added that the Miss Insurance event was discontinued to make way for a competition that emphasizes both intellect and skill, rather than focusing solely on appearance.
