Ekiti commissioner advocates access to safe, clean water

The Ekiti State Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Professor Mobolaji Aluko, has emphasised that access to safe and clean water is vital in every household to promote healthy living.

Professor Aluko, who made this known in Ado-Ekiti during a sensitisation walk organised to commemorate World Water Day, explained that the event aimed to raise public awareness of the importance of drinking safe water and maintaining a hygienic environment to prevent the spread of diseases.

The awareness walk was organised by the Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene, SURWASH, Programme in collaboration with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Utilities.

Addressing the issue of water distribution, Professor Aluko noted that water availability remains uneven across different areas and called on relevant authorities to urgently tackle the challenge.

He assured residents, however, that the Ekiti State Government is committed to ensuring that potable water is accessible to all communities in the state.

The sensitisation walk had earlier commenced from the Fajuyi Pavilion and moved through Okesa, focusing on educating the public on the need to stop the wastage of water and embrace sustainable practices.
