Rio Ferdinand Warns Declan Rice May Leave Arsenal if Trophies Elude Him Again

Rio Ferdinand Sounds Warning to Arsenal: Declan Rice May Leave if Trophies Don’t Follow

In a candid assessment, former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has cautioned that England international Declan Rice may consider departing Arsenal if the club fails to secure a trophy next season. This warning comes as Rice, a £100million signing from West Ham United two years ago, has yet to lift a major trophy with the Gunners despite making 101 appearances.

Rice, 26, joined Arsenal with high expectations, and his performances have been impressive. However, the absence of silverware has raised questions about his long-term commitment to the club. Ferdinand, speaking on his show "Rio Ferdinand Presents," believes that Rice’s desire for success could lead him to explore other options if Arsenal’s trophy drought continues. "I think Declan is a bit of a throwback. There is a difference to him," Ferdinand said, highlighting Rice’s unique approach to the game.

According to Ferdinand, Rice’s primary motivation for joining Arsenal was to improve himself and win trophies, rather than seeking financial gain or fame. "Declan has not gone to Arsenal for money or fame. He is gone there to try and improve himself and win," Ferdinand explained. If Arsenal fails to deliver on this promise, Ferdinand speculates that Rice may start "looking" for alternative opportunities. "If he goes another season without winning, then maybe he might start looking," the former Manchester United star warned.

While Ferdinand emphasized that it’s too early to predict Rice’s future with certainty, his comments underscore the pressure on Arsenal to deliver tangible success. As the new season approaches, all eyes will be on the Gunners to see if they can meet the expectations of their fans and key players like Rice. With Ferdinand’s words serving as a reminder of the high stakes, Arsenal will need to demonstrate their ability to compete for major honors to retain the services of their talented midfielder.
