The Nigeria Police Force has announced that the Special Investigation Panel probing allegations of extrajudicial killings, extortion and unprofessional conduct at the Anambra State Police Command and Zone 13, Ukpo‑Dunukofia, has launched a full‑scale investigation. Investigators are now moving to the relevant scenes and sites for on‑the‑spot assessments.
The Force’s Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, told our correspondent that the panel will use all available resources to examine every piece of information received through public channels. The findings and recommendations will be compiled in a comprehensive report. Adejobi emphasized that the panel, composed of respected officers—including members of the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit—reports directly to the IG and will carry out its duties professionally to ensure justice.
Adejobi also reassured Nigerians that the Anambra Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Awkuzu will be reorganised and “sanitised” to align with the current leadership’s policies and international best practices. This sanitisation will be extended to other tactical squads across the force.
Furthermore, the police clarified that the officers implicated in the recent allegations were never arrested or detained. They were summoned to the Force Headquarters for interrogation to clarify the accusations. Following a blogger’s claims, the IG initiated diligent investigations, which will continue unabated. Many aggrieved individuals have already contacted the panel for further deliberations and information sharing.
