Crisis appears to be deepening within the Jigawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as a splinter group has dragged the party to court, seeking to overturn the outcomes of recent local government and state congresses.
The aggrieved faction, operating under the name Committee for Ensuring Justice and Privileges and headed by Alhaji Abba Anas Adamu, has accused the party of conducting the congresses in a manner that violates both internal rules and democratic norms.
Speaking to journalists shortly after Tuesday’s proceedings at the High Court in Dutse, Alhaji Adamu voiced strong objections to how the elections were organized. According to him, the entire process lacked transparency and strayed from constitutional procedures.
Alhaji Adamu alleged that, “The leadership of the party is being controlled by a single individual who denies other members their rights and privileges,” stressing that the exercise sidelined many loyal members and was marred by irregularities.
He further claimed that instead of using approved venues, some of the local government congresses were conducted in private homes, while the state congress amounted to nothing more than a series of appointments, rather than a democratic process.
The group has petitioned the court to nullify the outcomes of the congresses, citing gross procedural violations. The case has been adjourned to May 28, 2025.
Adamu also issued a cautionary note, saying that failure to correct the alleged injustices may escalate tensions within the party and threaten its unity.
