2027: Tambuwal leads Sokoto PDP, Kebbi allies into coalition bloc

Former Governor of Sokoto State and serving Senator, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, is reportedly spearheading fresh moves to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2027 general elections, as PDP stakeholders in Sokoto and Kebbi States signal alignment with a broader opposition coalition.

In Sokoto, Tambuwal is leading efforts to merge the state’s PDP structure with the newly formed All Democratic Alliance, ADA, one of over 100 political groups seeking registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The move followed a closed-door stakeholders’ meeting held on Saturday at Tambuwal’s residence, attended by key PDP leaders including National Organising Secretary Umar Bature and Sokoto PDP Chairman Aliyu Goronyo.

While the party’s spokesperson confirmed the meeting, he declined to comment on the coalition talks, describing it as a routine gathering.

In Kebbi, PDP leaders met in Birnin Kebbi and declared their readiness to support any credible political alliance that can challenge the APC at both state and federal levels.

State party chairman, Dr. Ibrahim Mera, said the PDP was committed to building strong grassroots structures and reviving internal processes such as the state congress. He added that only united action could rescue Nigeria from the current economic and security crises.

Also speaking, 2023 governorship candidate, Gen. Aminu Bande (retd), accused the APC-led government in Kebbi of political witch-hunting and worsening public hardship.

Media Talk Africa gathered that both Sokoto and Kebbi PDP chapters have recently intensified coalition talks as part of a broader plan to challenge APC dominance in 2027.
