I'm ready to step aside for new leader - Kebbi ADC chairperson welcomes coalition

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is poised to contest the 2027 general elections in Nigeria, despite concerns raised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) about the party’s leadership registration. Former Sports Minister Solomon Dalung emphasized that the ADC has been a registered political party for over 19 years and is currently undergoing a transition that includes new coalition partners.

INEC previously stated that the ADC had not met the requirements to formally recognize Senator David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola as National Chairman and National Secretary, rendering any documents signed by them invalid. Dalung assured that the matter is being resolved and that the party is working to comply with INEC’s legal obligations.

Addressing claims by the ADC’s 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, that the party had been hijacked by outsiders, Dalung noted that Kachikwu’s candidacy in the last election does not grant him a position within the party’s organs. While Kachikwu is entitled to his opinions, Dalung warned that referring to other members in derogatory terms is inappropriate.

Regarding INEC’s concerns over specimen signatures of the new leadership, Dalung revealed that the issue is nearing resolution. He expressed optimism that the ADC will serve as a credible alternative to the ruling party in 2027, citing the party’s activities across the country as evidence that Nigerians can count on it to provide a viable option.

The ADC’s preparations for the 2027 elections are significant given its long history in Nigerian politics. As the country approaches the next election cycle, the party’s ability to navigate internal challenges and procedural requirements will be crucial to its viability as a political force. With leadership working to address INEC’s concerns, further developments are expected in the coming days, and the outcome will likely impact Nigeria’s political landscape as the ADC seeks to establish itself as a credible alternative to the ruling party.
