African Party Slams Government Over Fuel Taxes

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government for exacerbating the challenges faced by Nigerians. This criticism comes in response to the government’s plan to implement fuel and aviation taxes, set to take effect next year.

According to Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, the APC-led government lacks a plan to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians. Abdullahi noted that the country is already grappling with significant economic challenges, including the removal of fuel subsidies, devaluation of the Naira, and substantial foreign debts. He made these comments while speaking with journalists in Abuja over the weekend.

The ADC spokesperson emphasized that Nigerians are determined to vote out the APC in the next general elections, citing concerns that a fresh mandate for the current administration would worsen their economic situation. Abdullahi defended the ADC’s critical stance towards the ruling party, stating that it is the role of opposition parties to hold the government accountable and shed light on its actions.

Abdullahi also addressed the question of whether four years is sufficient time for a government to achieve its goals, acknowledging that some individuals have made significant accomplishments within that timeframe. The ADC’s criticism of the APC-led government highlights the ongoing economic struggles faced by Nigerians and the need for effective leadership to address these challenges.

The implementation of fuel and aviation taxes is likely to further strain the finances of ordinary Nigerians, who are already dealing with the aftermath of fuel subsidy removal and currency devaluation. The government’s decision has sparked concerns about its ability to mitigate the effects of these policies on the most vulnerable segments of the population. As the country prepares for the next general elections, the ADC’s criticism of the APC-led government is likely to resonate with Nigerians who are seeking alternatives to the current administration.
