PDP to hold special Expanded National Caucus meeting Monday

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has successfully conducted its ward congresses across the 21 local government areas of Kebbi State, Nigeria. The exercise, held on Saturday, saw party members elect new executives and delegates. A significant turnout was recorded in several wards, notably Gwangwadija in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area and Sauwa in Argungu Local Government Area, where over 500 people reportedly participated.

Bello Goronyo, leader of the Ward Congress Election Committee from the PDP national headquarters and chairman of the party in Sokoto State, expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the exercise. He commended the security agencies and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for ensuring a smooth process.

The ward congresses are a crucial step in the party’s internal democratic process, allowing members to elect their representatives and shape the party’s direction. As a major opposition force in Nigeria, the PDP views the successful conduct of the congresses in Kebbi State as a testament to its strength and acceptance in the region.

Sani Dododo, Chairman of the PDP Ward Congress in Kebbi State and the party’s publicity secretary, highlighted the large turnout as evidence of the party’s unity and resilience. “The turnout was a clear demonstration of the determination of our members and a sign that the party remains strong in the state,” he said.

The successful ward congresses represent a positive development for the PDP, which has been working to strengthen its structures and prepare for future elections. The party’s ability to hold peaceful and transparent internal elections is seen as a key factor in its capacity to challenge the ruling party and provide effective opposition in Nigeria. With the congresses now completed, the PDP in Kebbi State is poised to move forward with its internal democratic processes, selecting candidates and developing strategies for upcoming elections.
