CAFCL: Rivers United off to Congo today for FC Les Aigles clash

Rivers United secured a place in the second qualifying round of the CAF Champions League with a 1‑0 victory over Les Aigles of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The match, played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Sunday, saw Finidi George’s side dominate the early stages. Although they controlled the opening exchanges, the decisive goal came only in the latter part of the first half. Stephen Manyo struck from inside the box on the stroke of half‑time, and his goal proved enough as Rivers United held the lead for the remainder of the game.

The 1‑0 win advances Rivers United to the next round with a 1‑0 aggregate score. In the second qualifying round, the Port Harcourt‑based club will face Mozambican champions Black Bulls, setting up an intriguing encounter between the two teams. Nigeria’s other representative, Remo Stars, will meet South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in their upcoming match.

The CAF Champions League is Africa’s premier international club competition, featuring top teams from across the continent and providing a platform for clubs to showcase their skills at the highest level. Rivers United’s progress is a significant development for Nigerian football, demonstrating the team’s determination and ability to compete against strong opponents. As the tournament moves forward, fans can expect intense and exciting matches among the participating clubs.
