NDLEA arrests 75-year-old for drug peddling in Abia — Daily Nigerian

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its fight against drug abuse and trafficking in Nigeria, achieving a series of notable arrests and seizures. Agency spokesman Femi Babafemi reported that a 75‑year‑old man was apprehended with 4.7 kg of skunk in Ovum village, Abia State, and a 60‑year‑old suspect was also arrested with 225 g of the same substance in the same local government area. In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives recovered 150 kg of skunk during a raid at Lot Camp in Ondo State, while two suspects were arrested with 234.5 kg of the drug in Kaduna State.

Additional seizures included 8,600 pills of tramadol and rohypnol seized from suspects along the Abuja‑Kaduna highway. At the Seme border area in Lagos, a suspect was caught with 55 kg of skunk, and another was detained with 121.3 liters of “skuchies” in Badagry. In Zamfara State, authorities arrested a suspect transporting an AK‑47 rifle and 1,746 assorted rounds of ammunition from Sokoto to the Bagega forest.

Beyond enforcement, the NDLEA has continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization activities, targeting schools, worship centers, workplaces, and communities nationwide. Lectures have been delivered at several schools, including Asabari Grammar School in Oyo State, Government Day Girls Secondary School in Kebbi State, and St. Mark’s College in Enugu State. These outreach efforts underscore the agency’s commitment to curbing the spread of illicit substances and raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.

The NDLEA’s operations highlight the need for sustained vigilance and cooperation among law‑enforcement agencies, communities, and individuals to combat drug trafficking and abuse in Nigeria. As the agency continues its sensitization campaigns and enforcement actions, public awareness and support remain essential for creating a safer, healthier society.
