A significant defection has shaken Nigeria’s political landscape: more than 100 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Kibiya Local Government Area have joined the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP). The group, led by Hajiya Sabuwa Tarai, the APC Women Leader in the area, made the switch on Tuesday.
According to a statement from the Kano Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, the defectors were formally received into the NNPP by Alhaji Adamu A. Kibiya, the state’s Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. The decision to defect was reportedly driven by admiration for the development projects and initiatives implemented by Governor Yusuf’s administration. Tarai praised the numerous projects executed by Governor Yusuf at both the local government and state levels.
The commissioner welcomed the new members, assuring them of equal treatment and encouraging them to unite and contribute to the party’s growth.
