Over 100 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Tarai in Kibiya Local Government Area of Kano State have defected to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). The defectors, led by APC woman leader Hajiya Sabuwa Tarai, said they were motivated by the development projects and programmes carried out by the state government under Governor Yusuf.
In a statement, the Kano State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation confirmed the defections. The Kano State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, welcomed the new members, assuring them of equal treatment and urging them to work together for the party’s progress and the state’s development. His sentiment was echoed by Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Enlightenment, Hajiya Bintoto, who congratulated the newcomers and pledged that the NNPP would provide opportunities for them to contribute to the party’s growth.
Sabo Abdullahi, NNPP Chairman for Kibiya Local Government Area, expressed his happiness at the influx of members, attributing it to the governor’s efforts in transforming the state. The mass defection is seen as a significant boost to the NNPP in Kano State, highlighting the party’s growing influence in the region.
The development projects and programmes cited by the defectors form part of Governor Yusuf’s administration’s attempts to improve the lives of Kano residents. His initiatives target poverty reduction, infrastructure development, and human development, addressing many of the state’s challenges.
The shift of more than 100 APC members to the NNPP reflects the evolving political dynamics in Kano State. As the political landscape continues to change, the move is likely to impact the fortunes of both parties. With its rising popularity, the NNPP is poised to play a significant role in shaping the state’s political future.
