Mallam Alwan Hassan, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State and former Special Adviser to ex‑Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, told journalists in Abuja that he is confident the APC will win the 2027 governorship election, defeating the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). He said the party is currently strengthening its structures and uniting key political figures in preparation for the polls, and stressed that Kano must realign with the federal government to accelerate development. “Just wait and see, APC will take over Kano in 2027,” Hassan declared, indicating a vigorous campaign ahead.
In a separate development, Hassan publicly retracted an earlier allegation that senators had received a $10 million bribe to block the confirmation of Engr. Ramat Abdullahi as chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). He apologized to the National Assembly and its leadership, stating, “I fully retract that statement and offer my sincere apologies.” Hassan urged lawmakers to proceed with confirming Abdullahi, as recommended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The retraction may help ease tensions and promote more constructive dialogue between the executive and legislative branches, potentially smoothing the pending confirmation process.
As the 2027 governorship election approaches, the APC’s strategy in Kano State will be closely watched. The party’s ability to strengthen its structures and unite key political figures will be crucial to its chances of success. Meanwhile, the confirmation of Abdullahi as NERC chairman remains a significant issue, with potential implications for the country’s electricity sector.
