Max Verstappen has outlined his vision for an ideal Formula 1 calendar as the current season heads toward its conclusion. In a recent interview, the Red Bull driver said he would prefer fewer races, the elimination of sprint events, and a reduction in street‑circuit rounds. His proposed schedule features two‑day race weekends, a more streamlined format and only one practice session before qualifying and the main race.

The present F1 calendar consists of 24 races and six sprint events, spanning 21 countries across five continents over ten months. By contrast, when Verstappen entered the sport in 2015, there were 19 races and no sprint events.

At the moment, Verstappen sits third in the championship, 49 points behind leader Lando Norris and 25 points behind Oscar Piastri, with three races and a sprint still to run. He expressed satisfaction with the progress his team has made, noting that it has allowed him to close the gap to the leaders. “It’s been good, for sure,” he said. “I think every season you want to try and be better, which is not always easy, but you try to be more consistent.”

Nevertheless, Verstappen admitted that the season has not unfolded as planned, with the team encountering challenges and setbacks. With only a few events remaining, he will need to deliver exceptional performances to claim the championship—requiring three wins in the final races and DNFs from both Norris and Piastri to overturn the current standings. His comments offer a glimpse into the changes he would like to see implemented in F1 to improve the sport’s future.
