Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has approved the recruitment of at least 500 new personnel for the state’s Security Network Agency, Amotekun, in a bid to strengthen the security architecture and improve the safety and well‑being of citizens. The decision comes as some existing operatives, who were recruited in 2020, continue to seek formal appointment letters and have petitioned the government to regularise their employment status.
The announcement was made during the inauguration of a new cohort of Justices of the Peace, a position that had been dormant for nearly 17 years. A total of 130 individuals from diverse backgrounds were sworn in, reflecting the state’s commitment to inclusiveness in its grassroots‑justice initiative. The revived office is expected to give citizens a more active role in local justice delivery, with the new Justices urged to promote security, peace and justice in their communities. Governor Aiyedatiwa described the role as a “sacred responsibility” that demands dedication, integrity, wisdom and fairness.
By recruiting additional Amotekun personnel and reinstating the Justices of the Peace, the state government aims to create a more effective and responsive justice system while reinforcing community cohesion. These initiatives signal a renewed focus on community‑based justice and are intended to enhance overall security and well‑being for the people of Ondo State.
