Bandits never overran troops in Kwara -- Nigerian Army — Daily Nigerian

In a pre‑dawn operation, troops of the Nigerian Army repelled a massive assault on the town of Chibok. Around 2:50 a.m., more than 300 terrorists launched a coordinated attack from several directions. The 28 Task Force Brigade, already battle‑ready and supported by ambush teams and observation posts, responded swiftly. Soldiers engaged the insurgents in a fierce firefight that lasted over two hours, forcing the attackers to retreat toward the Azir axis by 5:00 a.m.

Following the initial clash, the 25 Brigade was deployed to establish ambush positions near the Azir Bridge. Using a Nigerian Army unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to guide their movements, they intercepted the fleeing militants. Although the terrorists scattered in different directions, the troops effectively disrupted their escape, preventing any harm to personnel or equipment. This outcome reflects the combat readiness and resilience of the forces, demonstrating their capacity to respond effectively to security threats.

The attack on Chibok marks a significant development in the ongoing fight against terrorism in the region. The town has previously been targeted by extremist groups, most notably the 2014 abduction of hundreds of schoolgirls. The successful defense underscores the importance of a continued military presence and vigilance in the area. Exploitation operations are now underway to assess the aftermath of the attack and to help prevent future incidents.

The Nigerian Army’s use of UAVs and coordinated ambush tactics proved effective in disrupting terrorist movements, and such strategies are likely to remain crucial in the broader counter‑terrorism effort. As the situation continues to evolve, the Army’s response will be closely monitored, with the international community watching for signs of progress in the battle against terrorism.
