The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has elected Leye Kupoluyi as its 44th President and Chairman of Council, succeeding Gabriel Idahosa at the end of his tenure. Idahosa, who was elected on 7 December 2023, handed over the leadership to Kupoluyi, an engineer and former Deputy President of the LCCI. The announcement was made by LCCI Director‑General Dr Chinyere Almona during the Chamber’s 137th Annual General Meeting on Thursday at Commerce House, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Dr Almona noted that Kupoluyi’s election followed a duly conducted process and described him as an accomplished professional with an exceptional record of leadership, dedication, and service in engineering, trade promotion, and industry development. Kupoluyi brings more than four decades of experience in power engineering, facilities management, renewable energy, and commerce. He founded Universal Power Systems Nigeria Limited in 1995, where he serves as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. He is a Chartered Engineer in the United Kingdom and holds an MBA in Technology Management from Olabisi Onabanjo University.
Within the LCCI, Kupoluyi has held several key positions, including Chairman of the Science & Engineering Group and Chairman of the Trade Promotion Board. As head of the Trade Promotion Board, he oversaw notable initiatives such as the Tech Hub Project and the 2022 free‑entry programme, which boosted participation and innovation at the Lagos International Trade Fair.
The Chamber expressed confidence that Kupoluyi’s leadership will deepen its role in policy advocacy and business development. Dr Almona highlighted his consistent contributions of expertise and valuable insights during strategic deliberations, asserting that his presidency will further strengthen the LCCI’s position as a leading advocate for sound business policies and practices. Kupoluyi’s election reflects the Chamber’s recognition of his commitment to its ideals, policy‑advocacy efforts, and the promotion of a more competitive environment for Nigerian businesses. He is expected to build on the Chamber’s work to promote trade and industry development in Nigeria, and his extensive experience and leadership skills position him well to advance the LCCI’s mission of protecting and promoting the interests of its members and the broader Nigerian business community.
