NAF speaks on 'grounding' of C-130 aircraft in Burkina Faso — Daily Nigerian

The Nigerian Air Force has issued a statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding a precautionary landing of one of its C‑130 transport aircraft in Bobo‑Dioulasso, Burkina Faso. According to Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, the aircraft was on a scheduled ferry mission to Portugal for maintenance when the crew detected a technical issue shortly after taking off from Lagos on Monday. In line with standard safety procedures and international aviation protocols, the crew chose to divert to the nearest available airfield, resulting in the precautionary landing in Burkina Faso.

The aircrew landed safely, and the Burkinabe authorities provided cordial support. Plans are underway to resume the mission once the necessary technical checks have been completed. The Nigerian Air Force has reassured the public of its commitment to strict compliance with operational and safety standards, prioritising the protection of its personnel while carrying out its constitutional duties.

The incident highlights the importance of adhering to safety protocols in the aviation industry, particularly when technical issues arise during flight. The C‑130 is a commonly used transport plane, known for its reliability and versatility, but like all aircraft it can experience technical problems due to maintenance, weather conditions, or other external factors. The decision to divert to a nearby airfield demonstrates the Air Force’s prioritisation of safety and adherence to international aviation standards.

No injuries or damage have been reported, and the aircraft is expected to resume its journey to Portugal for scheduled maintenance once the technical issues are resolved. The Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to safety and operational standards reflects its professionalism and dedication to protecting its personnel and assets. Further updates will be provided by the Nigerian Air Force as the situation develops.
