Brian Nwana, other Nigerians win 2025 TikTok awards

TikTok recently honored Africa’s most influential content creators, highlighting their impact across Sub‑Saharan Africa. At an event in South Africa, the platform recognized several creators, including Nigerian storyteller Brian Nwana, who was named TikTok Africa’s Storyteller of the Year. Based in Abuja, Nwana described the award as “surreal” and emphasized that every creator is a storyteller. He began producing content to showcase Abuja’s food, creativity and often‑overlooked attractions.

Nwana’s work gained widespread attention when he broke the Guinness World Record for visiting 150 restaurants in 24 hours, surpassing the previous record of 100 set by Canadian YouTuber Eric Decker. In August 2024, Guinness World Records officially named him the holder of the record for Most Fast‑Food Restaurants Visited in 24 hours, drawing global focus to the diversity of Abuja’s culinary scene.

Other Nigerian creators, such as Noosi Tiwantiwa and Raja’atu Muhammed Ibrahim, also received awards at the ceremony. The event underscored TikTok’s commitment to promoting diverse voices and stories, bringing together some of the continent’s most talented creators to celebrate their contributions to the digital landscape.

As social media continues to shape cultural narratives, platforms like TikTok are increasingly amplifying African perspectives and experiences. The awards illustrate the power of social media to showcase local talent and foster cultural exchange. With millions of users across Africa, TikTok remains a vital space for creators to share stories, connect with audiences and build communities, and it is likely that more African creators will gain international recognition for their innovative content and storytelling.
