The Nigerian Army has pledged to intensify its fight against terrorism, banditry and crime across the country. Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu made the declaration during an operational visit to the 2 Division in Ibadan on Monday, assuring that the military will pursue perpetrators to every corner of the nation, including forests, deserts and national parks.
Shaibu praised the soldiers for recent achievements and urged them to maintain their momentum. He stressed that the army will not allow criminal groups to exploit hard‑to‑reach areas to attack innocent civilians, and directed troops to increase night operations. Controlling key terrain, he said, is essential to restrict bandit movement. Specific security concerns were highlighted in Kwara, Kainji Lake National Park and Old Oyo National Park, where orders have been given to eliminate all criminal elements.
The COAS commended the General Officer Commanding and other senior officers for their leadership, noting that the operational briefings demonstrated clear focus and determination. He underscored the importance of leadership by example and assured soldiers that their welfare remains a top priority. All necessary resources and entitlements will be provided, and approval has been granted for the construction and renovation of additional barracks to ease accommodation pressures.
Shaibu emphasized that strong discipline, high morale and improved welfare are essential for maintaining the upper hand in operations and safeguarding communities. The army’s renewed commitment to combating crime and terrorism aims to ensure the safety and security of all citizens, with a focus on operational success and community protection.
