A gruesome murder has shaken the residents of Kayirikitti Village in Nyendo Division, Masaka City, after a woman’s body was discovered in her rented room on Tuesday morning. The victim, identified as Janiffer Nanyondo, is believed to have been killed by unknown assailants during the night. Eyewitnesses said they noticed the door to her room open and visible blood stains outside. When they entered, they found Nanyondo’s lifeless body.
The community is in shock and fear, with many calling for justice and increased security measures. Neighbor David Wasajja expressed the community’s devastation and appealed to the police for a thorough investigation. “Although she had a mental health condition, she was harmless and never caused trouble to anyone,” he said, adding concerns about the rising cases of theft and violent crime that have left residents fearing for their safety.
Police have launched an investigation, deploying officers from Nyendo Division to the scene for forensic examinations and a sniffer dog to aid the inquiry. As of now, no arrests have been made. Nyendo Division Police Commander John Kwesiga confirmed the incident, assuring residents that the police will pursue all those involved and hold them accountable. He urged the public not to interfere with crime scenes, as such actions can compromise investigations.
Kayirikitti Village Chairperson Ndawula Mutebi called for calm and cooperation with security agencies. Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson Twaha Kasirye strongly condemned the killing, describing it as a heinous act, and affirmed the police’s commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice. Authorities have urged anyone with information to report it to the nearest police station. The body has been taken to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for a post‑mortem examination.
