FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has assured that burgeoning political activities for the 2027 general elections will not disrupt the delivery of critical infrastructure projects in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The minister made this statement during an extensive on-site inspection of several ongoing developments in Abuja on Wednesday, emphasizing his capacity to manage both governance and political engagements without compromise.
Minister Wike distinguished between partisan politics and his governmental duty, stating that his primary focus remains service delivery to FCT residents. He underscored that political timelines would not impede ongoing work, noting that the continuity of projects depends on consistent payment to contractors and rigorous supervision. “I assure you, politics is not going to affect my work,” he said. “The only way it will affect work is to make people happy by ensuring that the Renewed Hope Agenda is real and working.” This agenda refers to the policy framework of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The inspection tour covered multiple key projects. Minister Wike reviewed the construction of a road linking Baze University, the Body of Benchers, Nile University, and the Wupa Light Rail Station in the Idu area. He confirmed the contractor’s commitment to completing the project by May, timed to coincide with the third anniversary of President Tinubu’s administration. He also assessed the extension building for the Body of Benchers, which he noted is approximately 80 percent complete, with only landscaping remaining.
Additionally, the minister examined the ongoing construction of a 7-kilometre road connecting Airport Road with Tunga Madaki and surrounding communities. He described this project as fulfilling a Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) promise to improve regional connectivity. Minister Wike directed that preparatory work to extend this road linkage to the Zuba area should commence immediately.
The minister’s on-ground assessment and directives highlight a continued push for infrastructure development in the nation’s capital. His remarks aim to project stability in project execution regardless of the national political calendar, signalling that the FCTA’s development trajectory remains on schedule as the country prepares for the next electoral cycle.
