Trump’s Board of Peace: $5B, Troops for Gaza Stabilization Force

US President Donald Trump has announced that member states of his newly formed “Board of Peace” have pledged over $5 billion and thousands of personnel for an international stabilization force intended for Gaza. In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated that formal commitments would be finalized at a scheduled meeting in Washington on February 19. He framed the deployment as essential for maintaining “security and peace” in the territory and reiterated that Hamas must agree to full demilitarization.

The proposed International Stabilization Force and local police contingent would operate under the Board of Peace, an initiative Trump established in mid-January as part of a broader Gaza peace roadmap. The president, who named himself chairman, has invited global leaders to join what he describes as a historically significant body. He envisions the board operating with a scope that extends “far beyond” traditional international organizations like the United Nations. According to the announcement, permanent membership beyond an initial three-year period would reportedly require a contribution of $1 billion.

While President Trump did not specify which nations had committed funds or troops, Indonesia has indicated potential involvement. An army spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Donny Pramono, told the Associated Press that Indonesia has 8,000 personnel on standby, awaiting formal government approval for deployment. This positions Indonesia as a possible first troop contributor.

International reception to the US-led initiative has been mixed. Israel has reportedly accepted an invitation to participate. However, several European nations, including France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, and the United Kingdom, have declined. Russia has confirmed receiving an invitation and is currently reviewing the proposal.

The board’s stated mandate is to oversee reconstruction, security, and a political transition in Gaza. However, the plan has drawn criticism over its legitimacy and scope. Analysts have questioned the board’s authority and highlighted the notable absence of direct Palestinian political representation in its proposed structure. Hamas has previously stated it remains committed to a political process but insists it will only disarm after a full Israeli military withdrawal from Gaza.

The February 19 meeting in Washington is set to be a critical juncture for the initiative, where the claimed financial and personnel commitments are expected to be formalized. The plan’s future hinges on securing broad international support, navigating the complex conditions set by Hamas, and addressing the extensive humanitarian and security challenges within Gaza.
