APC Lagos Chairman Ojelabi Re-elected in Consensus Congress

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has retained its state leadership following a consensus-driven re-election at its state congress. Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi secured a second term as State Chairman, with other principal officers also returning to their positions.

The congress, held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos, on Tuesday, saw approximately 2,000 accredited delegates from across the state affirm the leadership list presented by the State Congress Committee. Mrs. Stella Okotete, who chaired the committee, announced the consensus candidates for the State Executive Committee, including Mr. Moshood Mayegun (Deputy Chairman), Dr. Adeola Jokomba (Secretary), and Mr. Oluseye Oladejo (Publicity Secretary). Other re-elected officials include Mrs. Folashade Bakare (Legal Adviser), Mr. Abiodun Ayigbe (Treasurer), and Mr. Banjo Adedoyin-Wasiu (Financial Secretary).

Okotete emphasized that the process adhered strictly to the party’s constitutional guidelines for state congresses. She stated that while consensus was adopted, it was achieved through due process, ensuring the exercise remained democratic and transparent. “This congress is not a contest of enemies. It is a contest of progressive family members united by ideology,” she remarked, urging all participants to demonstrate sportsmanship and respect the outcome.

She underscored Lagos State’s pivotal role within the national party structure, describing it as the “heartbeat of progressive politics” and the home of President Bola Tinubu. According to Okotete, the strength of the APC in Lagos is vital to the party’s nationwide vitality. She reminded delegates that voting rights were contingent on fulfilling constitutional requirements, including membership registration and fee payments.

The committee chair called for collective respect of the processes and results, framing leadership within the party as an exercise in service and unity. She linked the congress to the broader “renewal agenda” of President Tinubu, urging members to consolidate the party’s structure and progressive ideology in the state.

The seamless re-election of the entire executive slate through consensus highlights continued internal cohesion within Lagos APC, a critical stronghold for the ruling party. The outcome is seen as reinforcing stability as the party prepares for future political engagements in Nigeria’s most populous state.
